I’ve found the following resources very useful on my journey of self-discovery. I hope others will find them informative as well.
The Gender Dysphoria Bible
This site contains a wealth of information about gender dysphoria: the powerful, pervasive knowledge that you are not the person you need to be. It also includes information on what to expect and what might happen during the “second puberty” that people experience during hormone replacement therapy (HRT). This information goes beyond what is supported by years of reliable studies, which is important because there have not been many reliable studies on the effects of HRT.
Oh Shit, My Coworker Just Told Me They’re Trans!
An excellent article in Stained Glass Woman (below) that describes how coworkers and organizations should—and in some cases must—treat trans or gender diverse employees. This article is primarily focused on US laws and practices, but it is very adaptable to a Canadian workplace.
The Psychology of Human Sexuality
For those who want extensive detail on the ins and outs of human sexuality, the nature of gender, and human physical diversity, this textbook is a must-read. This is the 2024 update. (This is not an affiliate link; I don’t receive any compensation or consideration for it.)
Sex/Gender: Biology in a Social World
The author provides a detailed description of how biological sex and gender combine to make us the complex beings we are. It contains a lot of research references, but the writing style is clear and easy to follow. (This is not an affiliate link; I don’t receive any compensation or consideration for it.)
Stained Glass Woman
This is my favorite blog on the subject of transitioning. The author has a PhD with a focus on medical writing, so her articles are clearly written and include citations to back up the information she presents. This is also the blog that cracked my egg, so if you’ve ever questioned your identity, be aware that this blog will make you think.
Trans-Torials
Another article on Stained Glass Woman for those who want the short version, with links to more detailed articles.
I’ll add more resources as I come across them.
